E-vital records system converts paper to images

Macomb County, MI
Program Year: 2013

Abstract:
The vital records section of the Macomb County Clerk’s Office adopted a new paperless method of doing business. Using individual, handheld scanners, the vital records section is now able to create an electronic backup image for all office paperwork. Previously, all scanning was done in a bulk session at certain times of the day when a staff person was able to dedicate time for it. The implementation of the handheld scanners allows staff to immediately scan incoming documents and index them into the system, saving time and preventing delays. Also, this new method allows all documents not previously imaged to be scanned, allowing for an electronic backup image that is more easily accessible and, at the same time, saving physical storage space.
